Liberty advises the management team of Great Rail Journeys on it’s acquisition by Vitruvian

Liberty Corporate Finance is delighted to announce they have advised the management team of Great Rail Journeys a leading specialist premium tour operator on it’s acquisition by Vitruvian. The transaction marks an exit for Duke Street who purchased Great Rail Journeys in 2018.

Working with Dan and team at Liberty was a fantastic experience. They helped us navigate through any challenges with a clear and pragmatic approach whilst ensuring we secured a great outcome. They also made sure our less experienced private equity teammates knew what to expect and where the key issues were - what made them feel at ease throughout the process.

Dave Riley
CEO of Great Rail Journeys

Great Rail Journeys was founded in York, England in 1973 as a family-run business focused on rail tours for UK travellers in the UK and around Europe. Great Rail Journeys now offers a portfolio of multi-modal, premium tours by rail river and more with 400 itineraries to over 40 countries globally. The company serves the growing demographic age group of 55+ which exhibits a continued demand for travel experiences.

Vitruvian looks to support Great Rail journeys on it’s growth journey and ambition to become the global market leader in escorted travel. Great Rail has previously scaled it’s operations through continued technology advancements in digital marketing and analytics and expanding tour offerings.

Vitruvian Partners is one of the most active global investors in the travel and travel tech sector, with current investments including Travel Counsellors, Sykes Cottages, Civitatis, Klook and OAG, in addition to highly successful prior investments in Skyscanner and JacTravel.

It has been a pleasure working with Dave and the rest of the management team of Great Rail Journeys on this significant milestone for the business. We look forward to the teams continue success in their partnership with Vitruvian.
